Photography WORKSHOPS

Learn from an experienced and award-winning food photographer.

Learn from an experienced and award-winning food photographer.

With 43 cookbooks to my name and decades of food advertising campaigns, it's time to get serious about sharing my skills, vision, techniques and secrets with others keen to specialise in food photography.

I’ve been running food photography workshops for a few years now, and it's become clear that the more personal the workshop, the more you will benefit.

With my own food photography studio and kitchen, I can offer one-on-one workshops, or you can learn with a colleague or friend.

Everybody has a different starting point and a different vision in mind. I will customise the workshop to suit your needs. Depending on your level, this will involve five to six hours of hands-on experience.

Suggested topics include:

  • Light, natural or artificial? The most important thing to learn

  • Understanding camera settings

  • Lens choice, selective focus, image composition and framing

  • The recipe and the key ingredient. What are we selling?

  • Working fast, keeping up with the chef

  • Working with clients, creatives, chefs, cooks and food stylists

  • Digital post production

  • Time management and meeting a deadline

If food styling content is more your thing, we can frame a workshop around that. Prefer digital workflow and post production? Let’s put our focus there. If mobile phone photography and social media are what you want to learn more about, no problem.

In short, I am happy to customise your workshop experience so you get what you want.  I can also bring in other industry professionals to further customise your experience.

Please get in touch to discuss how we can make your workshop perfect for you.

I look forward to learning how we can help you get started in this exciting career.

Costs: Note this is a premium food photography masterclass. Either one-on-one or a two-person customised workshop aimed at professional development.

It is not a general photography class.

The price of $695 per person includes a customised workshop, lunch and refreshments, as well as two food recipes to photograph.

Participants are also welcome to contact me after the session and send me images to critique and provide feedback.

“I attended Craig Kinder’s photography workshop this morning and in only a few hours, I walked away with so much new knowledge and practical advice that I can immediately apply. Craig was warm, knowledgeable and encouraging - which made the session both informative and genuinely enjoyable. I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their photography skills and confidence behind the camera.”

Melissa Redwood Director + Principal Interior Designer

“Knowing how to use a camera is one thing, but using it as a tool to deliver the deliciousness of food, the unique character of a person or the sense of place through an image is Craig’s gift and who now has generously offered to share his knowledge through an experience that will be practical but enormously fun. Having worked with Craig on many field trips and in the studio I can only say don’t miss this opportunity to learn from one of Australia’s best and most experienced photographers.”

Sophie Zalokar, Food of the Southern Forests

For more than a decade, Craig has generously supported North Metropolitan TAFE's Photography students through his annual "Food on Location" demonstration masterclasses. His ongoing commitment to photographic education has made a significant contribution to the learning experience of our students and has become a highly anticipated event in our academic calendar.

Craig freely shares his extensive knowledge, professional expertise, and practical industry insights, providing students with a valuable opportunity to learn from one of Australia's leading food photographers. His demonstrations cover not only the technical aspects of food photography, including lighting, composition, styling, and location-based problem solving, but also the creative thinking and professional workflow required to produce high-quality commercial imagery.

What sets Craig apart is his willingness to openly discuss his experiences, techniques, and lessons learned throughout his career. Students consistently benefit from his practical tips, real-world examples, and approachable teaching style, which help bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional practice.
